Dear Mr. President

Dear Mr. President,

   Gee, I guess you’re on your way to Europe by now.  I somehow didn’t realize you were visiting us again.  Now that takes guts, considering how most people over here despise you.  But probably not the Slovenians, where you’re going first.  They’re “new Europe”.  The rest of us are “old Europe”. 

     In fact, I heard you were coming to Berlin, to celebrate the 60th annivesary of the Marshall Plan. My how things have changed.  If you stood up there like Kennedy and said “Ich bin ein Berliner”, they’d run you out of town on a rail.  This is not because the Germans are ingrates, or anti-American.  The Germans are anti-you, that’s all.  They are anti-you because of the Iraq war,and if you are ill-advised enough to compare our present occupation of Iraq with our past occupation of Germany, then they will tar and feather you before running you out on a rail.
