Dear Mr. President,
In your news conference in Paris, you said in your typical, non-standard English, “If I were a betting man, we’ll reach an agreement with the Iraqis.” . This was about the new Security Agreement to which the Iraqis are presently not agreeing – and who can blame them? As you so cannily point out, that’s what happens in a sovereign democracy.
In fact, I think if Iraq were really a sovereign democracy, with a government that was not our puppet, the question of your penchant for gambling would not pertain. The Iraqi people would decide whether we should stay – and I’d bet they’d want us to leave!
Sincerely; VNV
